Photography is my main passion, but I'm interested in a wide range of media. I'm always open to new ideas. My own work focuses on four disciplines: Greeting Cards, Photography, Published Works, and Self Portraits.
I was never exposed to Art, so I had no idea what was out there. I loved to put makeup on my cousin and friends and do their hair. I also enjoyed making friendship braclets with yarn and beads. My cousin's grandma showed me how to crochet, but I only remembered how to crochet a chain stitch. I made my moms friend a sweashirt with my artwork on it. It was puff paint, glitter, stamps, etc. My moms friend saw it and offered me money to make her one. My mom bought me a few things to cross stitch. I was always in my room making things with paper and glitter. Girl Scouts exposed me to a lot of things. Retreats, sewing, making things, and performing in plays. The only camera my parents had while growing up was a polaroid camera. The very last photo I remember my mom taking was my 1st communion. Years later when I disovered the polaroid camera, we didn't have any film. I saw a form on the back of a cereal box for a camera, I knew I had to get it. It was a small black 110 camera with a pop up view finder. I was excited. I took tons of photos of my cat. Some turned out good, some turned out blurry. I then got a pink 110 camera and my mom had a purple one that she never used and it had flash bulbs, but I could not get it to work. In high school, I really started getting creative. I subscribed to Teen, Vogue, Seventeen magazines. Thats when the creativity began. I began to experiment with cool hair dews and braids. Fashion combinations with layering. Painting on my ceiling and creating things to hang in my room. Then I got a white 35mm plastic camera to document my cool hair colors and crazy outfits, doing a few self portraits. My classmates noticed I had a lot of shoes. One guy sarcastically made a bet that I couldn't wear a different pair of shoes every day for the rest of the school year. In response, I not only wore different shoes everyday, but also a different outfit as well for the remaining 3 months of class- the only motivation I had to attend.
Several artists were instrumental in shaping my own vision of art. They are the inspiration for some of my work.
